My name is Indumati Suna. I am 52 years old and a housewife. I have been married for 41 years, and together, we have 7 children. The eldest is 40, and the youngest is 23.
I want to start a shop, selling all kinds of everyday items. I would like to open a shop at my home and not in a separate storefront. I have several reasons for this. First of all, I am illiterate and I don't want my electricity bill and extra rent to be too much. Also, my neighbours will be happy to have a shop closer to them.
We have our own house. This is where I live with my husband and my 2 youngest children, both of whom are currently still in education. My husband was a pastor but is now he is retired. We do not receive any pension benefits. My husband still earns a little money by making house calls. All my eldest daughters are married and stay in their husband's house. To support my family, I sometimes work as a day labourer. I don't like doing this hard work, but I have to.
My family has to live on about ₹2000 (€25) a month. For a long time, I sold daily necessities. I put these in a basket I wore on my head. With this, I traveled to villages to sell the items. Sometimes I choose to be a day labourer. This earns me ₹450-500 (€5.63 - €6.25) weekly. When I can run my own shop, I expect to make ₹10,500 (€131) profit per month.
